A Very DIY Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! It’s been a very DIY Thanksgiving here at the Frugalwoods, which I’m sure comes as a surprise to zero people. We’re hosting family and in preparation, last weekend Mr. Frugalwoods and I: cleaned the entire house, laundered all the guest bedding (and ours too for good measure), baked 4 pies and 1 pumpkin cake, did prep work on the Thanksgiving feast (made artisan bread dough, prepared fresh homemade cranberry sauce, and whipped together a compound...

Frugal Hound Sniffs: Budget Blonde

A note to new readers: while we often delve deeply into financial topics (such as Behind the Scenes of a Happy Frugal Marriage and How We Save 65% Annually), we also like to keep it irreverent and downright silly. Because hey, who doesn’t need an investigative interview series conducted by a dog?! And so, I hope you’ll enjoy Frugal Hound Sniffs! If you’d prefer a more, ahem, financial independence-related post, start here. Greetings World Wide Web. Frugal Hound here....

Weekly Woot & Grumble: Many Woots of Gratitude

Woot As we round the corner towards Thanksgiving, I’m inspired to share a woot of gratitude for the many things Mr. Frugalwoods and I are thankful for. We’re thrilled to host my in-laws for Thanksgiving and as we prepare for their visit, I wanted to reflect on the appreciation I feel for the life Mr. FW and I have created. Family: I am deeply grateful for the ol’ kinfolk. Our parents and siblings are supportive, interesting, loving people and we both have relatively drama-free...

The Ultimate Bike Commuter’s Guide to Winter Cycling

Riding your bike to work is easy when the sun is shining, birds are chirping, and a warm (but not too warm) breeze is tickling your cheeks. We get about 3 of those days per year in Boston. I kid, I kid. Sorta. As the days grow shorter and the mercury plummets, I’m joined by fewer and fewer hearty souls on our epic journeys towards gainful employment. Where do they all go, those sweet summer children? Whether...

Great Trash Finds: The Thanksgiving Edition

On the heels of last week’s list of shockingly expensive things we own, I figured I’d better bring it on back down to earth with some trash finds. This month’s Great Trash Finds is devoted to a few choice items that Mr. Frugalwoods and I will use while we host his family for Thanksgiving this year. We’re thrilled that my in-laws are visiting us for the extra long weekend! In addition to many of our superb kitchen trash finds,...

10 Shockingly Expensive Things We Own

The Frugalwoods home is primarily outfitted with discount Craigslist deals, garage sale goodies, and of course, great trash finds. If you’re a regular reader, please sit down before continuing to read. Brace yourself: there are a few things Mr. Frugalwoods and I have purchased brand new and, in some instances, not even on sale. GASP. Everyone still breathing? Ok, let’s continue. I thought it would be a revealing exercise to itemize our not so frugal fixtures and...

Weekly Woot & Grumble: Certified Turkey Freak

Woot We’re hosting Mr. Frugalwoods’ family for Thanksgiving! This is our third consecutive year serving as the stewards of this fine holiday and we are thrilled. Homebody that I am, I absolutely love hosting people in our home. Well, not random people per se, but people we actually know. My in-laws (parents + siblings) will be here at Frugalwoods HQ for 4 days and nights. We’re all looking forward to endless rounds of Canasta, much talking,...

Are You Going To Eat That? Never Waste Food Again!

Do you waste food? Want to know how Mr. Frugalwoods and I manage not to? Head on over to Club Thrifty where I’m delighted to be writing a guest post today all about how Mr. FW and I have slashed food waste like a ninja. If a ninja was in charge of not wasting food, that would pretty much be what we do. Don’t believe me? In the past month, we’ve thrown out a few grapes. That’s it. Why...
